Star Wars: The Last Jedi has become the biggest film of 2017 in the UK and Ireland after taking £73.1m in just three weeks.

The latest instalment in the sci-fi saga has now spent over 22 consecutive days at the number one spot.

Disney now holds three out of the top five films of the year at the UK and Ireland box office and has, as a result, been crowned the biggest distributor in the region for a second year in a row.

Disney has secured £265.1m in UK and Ireland box office takings with just three films. Beauty and the Beast took £72.4m at the start of 2017 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 took £41m.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently the seventh biggest film ever released in the UK and Ireland.

Upcoming releases for the year ahead include Disney Pixar’s Coco, Marvel’s Black Panther, A Wrinkle in Time and Marvel’s Infinity War. Disney will also be returning to the Star Wars universe with Solo: A Star Wars Story this May.
