The licensing drive for online animated property Simon's Cat is starting to build, with RDF Rights signing up Portico to produce a collection of paper products.

The firm will be creating a full stationery range including greetings cards, gift wrap, gift tags, bags, stationery-based gifting and dated products such as calendars and diaries.

RDF was appointed by United Agents as the UK licensing agent for Simon's Cat earlier this year. It is actively seeking other partners to develop the range, including gifting plush and other soft lines.

"We are delighted to be working with Portico to produce an exciting array of Simon's Cat stationery," said Jane Kennedy, senior licensing manager at RDF. "Portico is well known and respected in this category and we look forward to launching the product at retail this summer."

Simon Harrison, chairman at Portico Designs, added: "The Simon's Cat inbox is constantly bombarded with email requests for merchandise. So I'm really happy that finally we'll be able to satisfy the requests of our dedicated fans."

The animated series of Simon's Cat follows the adventures of the character and his relationship with the author's - Simon Tofield - cartoon alter ego. Online, it has totalled 70.3 million views on YouTube to date and one of the online films, Fly Guy, was the fifth most viewed UK video on YouTube in 2009. As of May, Simon's Cat had almost 14,000 followers on Twitter and over 186,000 fans on Facebook.
