Having proved a hit in its home country of Mexico, the owner of the Chico Chihuahua brand is now aiming to introduce it into other territories - with the UK, US and Canada all high on its target list.

The property launched on the internet in Spanish and English in May 2008 with animated e-cards and a daily comic strip. Since then, further products including back to school items, backpacks, bags, pencil cases and gifts including cushions and soft toys have been released.

Greetings cards, stationery and bags are currently being sold in specialty gift stores across Mexico. Additionally, a line of tourist souvenirs have also been created and are available in selected stores in Cancún and the Riviera Maya.

"What started as a side line job is becoming a full time occupation," said Blanca Ruíz, creator and owner of the Chico Chihuahua brand.

Ruíz's short-term goal is to secure licensing agreements for the property in the back to school, greeting cards and stationery areas. She is also confident Chico Chihuahua has potential outside of the Mexican market.

"We are taking measurable steps to build things up, we are a growing business with plenty of innovative ideas in the pipeline, so I am sure there is more to come from us," said Ruíz.
