Strong growth in children's wear expected

New research by has projected that retail sales for the kids' clothing market could hit $131.5 billion by 2012. also reported that the top ten children's wear markets around the world are expected to grow 42 per cent by 2012. Trends fuelling the growth include retail development in emerging countries, plus the increasing luxury sales in more developed markets.

Designers are also extending their luxury lines down into children's wear. However, low-end brands at general merchandise and supermarket chains continue to dominate in the infant/toddler and pre-school categories.

Markets in the US, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, China, India, Russia and Japan currently account for an estimated $92.6 billion in retail sales of children's apparel, according to the Global Market Review of Children's Wear - Forecasts to 2012.
