Studio Press has been named the publisher of choice for a one-off So Awkward TV tie in title for the popular CBBC series.

The deal was made directly with the popular comedy and entertainment TV production company, Channel X, the team behind the successful comedy series.

So Awkward is a Broadcast Award winning and BAFTA nominated CBBC series that follows three socially awkward teenage girls, Lily Hampton, Jas Salford and Martha Fitzgerald as they navigate the trials and tribulations of being teenagers.

The first series had over six million views on BBC iPlayer and the show has consistently featured in the top 10 requested programmes on the play back service throughout the three existing series.

Publishing in June this year, the So Awkward Scrapbook charts the life of the three girls and their friends. The fun teen lifestyle survival guide will be written from the point of view of Lily, Martha, Jas and their school friends.

The title will include exclusive content as well as content from the new series, revealing new characters and storylines ahead of the launch of series four on CBBC in summer 2018.

Lisa Edwards, head of children’s publishing at Kings Road Publishing, said: “We knew that So Awkward was a huge hit among young teens and they would have an appetite to see and read more from their favourite characters.

“Our scrapbook is not only the perfect way to delve into the girls’ world in even greater detail, but it makes sense as something they would actually create with their friends. We hope it encourages readers to do the same.”

Alan Marke, managing director at Channel X, added: “We are proud of everything that has been achieved for So Awkward so far. When the opportunity arose to develop the TV series in to a book, we were really excited by the prospect of expanding the brand.

“Fans of the TV series will now be able to explore the SO Awkward world further, with some hilarious insights from their favourite characters. We hope the scrapbook will also introduce a new fan base to the TV series, which is due to return to CBBC this summer for a fourth series.”
