The organiser of art and design expo Surtex has hailed this May's show as a success, revealing that attendance was up by 29 per cent.
Penny Sikalis, GLM VP and show manager, attributed the strong turn out in part to the event's new location - adjacent to the National Stationery Show and closer to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair than in past years.
"There was great synergy among the shows with a noticeable boost in cross traffic - the very dynamic we were aiming to create," Sikalis said. "This new location for Surtex also made it easier for licensees and buyers to find each other, sometimes for the first time.
"The activity we witnessed at this year's show tells us that manufacturers are expecting to need more licensed art for new products, which bodes well for the production side of the economy, as well as for those who create cutting edge designs."
Surtex 2010 is set for May 16th to 18th at the Jacob Javits Center in New York.
"The success and excitement of this year's show are already generating enthusiasm and strategic planning for next year," Sikalis added.
