Art and design show Surtex has revealed plans for an extended event in 2013, with more exhibition space, a special section for textile design studios, additional trend and business resources, plus two new co-located shows.

Surtex will take place between May 19th and 21st, 2013 at the Jacob K Javits Convention Center, New York.

Visitors will be greeted with an expanded layout, shifted to the front and centre of Javits Hall 3A. There will also be an added licensing aisle, plus an extra selling aisle for exhibitors serving sectors ranging from apparel and decorative fabrics, linens, tabletop, wall coverings and floor coverings to giftware, stationery, greeting cards, toys and publishing.

In addition, Surtex will launch Atelier - a new section dedicated to design studios and designers who primarily sell their art and designs outright.

This area will be characterised by an intimate, yet more open floor plan in a distinct and private environment. Approximately 75 select studios from the UK, Europe, US and Japan will unveil their collections.

Both the Trend Centre and the ReSource Hub will also be enlarged.

On top of this the Creative & Lifestyle Arts show will be positioned directly between the National Stationery Show and Surtex.

"The growth in the market, as well as feedback from our constituents has prompted these additions and upgrades to Surtex," said Penny Sikalis, VP of GLM and manager of Surtex. "The launch of the design-forward Atelier is especially exciting, because it re-emphasises the roots Surtex has in the textiles and wallcoverings sectors, as these industries rebound and regain design importance."
