Blockbuster film franchise and best-selling trilogy The Hunger Games is making the move to the stage.

Lionsgate has revealed that a new live stage show is currently under development, with curtains scheduled to lift in summer 2016.

The ‘innovative stage adaptation’ will launch in a purpose built theatre next to Wembley Stadium in London, according to the BBC.

The live performance will be created by Robin de Levita, the name behind the Dutch stage show about Anne Frank.

Based on the novels of Suzanne Collins, the Hunger Games series follows the adventures of Katniss Everdeen as she struggles for survival in a dystopian future.

Tim Phelan, chief marketing officer for Lionsgate has said that the team behind the stage adaptation will “provide a uniquely immersive experience for fans around the world.”

Mr de Levita, added: “The theatre is a fantastic medium to bring the many meaningful layers of Suzanne Collins’ writing to life.”
