The Amazing Spider-Man 2 screenwriter Alex Kurtzman is in final negotiations to direct Universal’s The Mummy reboot.
Kurtzman, who directed 2012 drama People Like Us, is already signed on to produce The Mummy with The Fast and The Furious writer Chris Morgan.
The two have also been tasked with creating a multi-film narrative set to 'expand and unify' a network of classic Universal monsters.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that The Mummy will be set in the present and is set to be an action-adventure movie with horror elements rather than a straight horror film.
“Over the course of developing The Mummy, Alex has demonstrated such clarity and passion about this character and mythology," said co-president of production Jeff Kirschenbaum.
"He knows why The Mummy has fascinated us for so long and how to bring that into an inventive, incredible new adventure. It became obvious that he is the perfect choice to be not only one of the narrative engineers of this new vision but its director as well.”
