The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm have taken the Star Wars universe to the realms of Virtual Reality with its new Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine experience.
A short narrative experience for the VR headgear HTC Vive, the demo is set after the events of Return of the Jedi and stars a Jedi apprentice of Luke Skywalker.
The experience itself is the result of a collaboration between Lucasfilm Story Group, ILMxLAB and Skywalker Sound and allows fans to take part in the action of a lightsaber battle.
“We are a storytelling company, we are well-versed in a hundred years of the language of cinema, all of which gets thrown out the window when you no longer have a locked on camera,” said ILMxLAB’s associate visual effects supervisor, Roger Cordes in an interview with IGN.
“It’s a first person storytelling experience, so we have to kind of find our way in that wilderness about how to tell a compelling story in the Star Wars universe.”
