Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has become only the second film in history to gross over $200 million or more in its first five days.
The Michael Bay movie took an estimated $201.2 million, joining The Dark Knight in the prestigious club.
Additionally, the sequel eclipsed the previous Wednesday to Sunday record holder - Spider-man 2 - by grossing nearly $50 million more in ticket sales in the US. Revenge of the Fallen also overtook Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix as the biggest Wednesday opener, beating it by over $15 million.
The film was the third largest worldwide opening weekend grosser, earning $274 million. It has also become Paramount's biggest international opener of all time.
The original Transformers opened in 2007 with $70.5 million in the US, eventually going on to earn $319.2 million domestically and more than $700 million worldwide. The sequel has taken $387 million worldwide to date, with final figures for the weekend due today.
