Turner appoints new chief financial officer as it eyes global expansion

Turner Broadcasting System Europe, Middle East, Africa has appointed a new chief financial officer.

Former VP of corporate strategy and insights at Turner, Jamie Friend has stepped into the position and is tasked with heading up finance for Turner's growing portfolio of news, kids and general entertainment brands.

In a move that was announced today, Monday, Ocvtober 12th by Giorgio Stock, president of Turner Broadcasting System Broadcasting System EMEA and Aksel van der Wal, CFO international.

Core brands under Friend's remit will include Cartoon Network, Boomerang, CNN International, TNT, TruTV and TCM, among others. Based in London, he will report into van der Wal and assist Stock as part of his EMEA management team.

Aksel van der Wal, said: “Jamie’s wealth of industry knowledge, M&A experience and strategic insight make him the perfect fit for this role. His astute business expertise and innovative thinking are a powerful combination in the fast changing media landscape.”

Friend’s promotion comes as Turner EMEA continues to broaden its operation, with its Boomerang, TNT and Boing brands all expanding their EMEA footprint this year.

“Turner’s ongoing growth ambitions for the region will be very well served by the blend of financial acumen and new business insight that Jamie brings to the table,” said Stock.

Prior to joining Turner in October 2013, Friend worked at Arqiva where he was Head of Strategy for Digital Platforms. He also previously held senior strategy and business development roles at a number of companies including The Walt Disney Company.
