Turner Broadcasting to roll out Cartoonito across EMEA

Pre-school channel to reach 112 territories; Bananas in Pyjamas signed as flagship launch series.

Turner Broadcasting is to roll out its UK pre-school channel Cartoonito across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, increasing its distribution to 125 million homes in 112 territories.

Cartoonito will be launching across a number of EMEA territories as a branded block on Boomerang in September. In Turkey and the Middle East, the block will be broadcast on Cartoon Network.

Turner has picked up the new series of Bananas in Pyjamas (pictured) as one of its flagship debut shows - just one of a number of high profile deal signings by the broadcaster.

Also forming part of the debut line-up will be Jelly Jamm, a new 3D animated series. A number of additional pan-EMEA pre-school series are expected to be unveiled for 2012 in the coming months.

"We're incredibly excited to be making such a big splash in the pre-school market, with a full scale roll out of Cartoonito across EMEA," said Michael Carrington, chief content officer at Turner Broadcasting. "While controller of Cbeebies, I'd always admired Cartoonito from afar, and having the opportunity to extend this wonderful pre-school brand across EMEA was one I couldn't resist."

The Cartoonito model will mirror that of the channel in the UK, featuring a mix of locally produced content and flagship programming. The station launched in the UK in May 2007 and since its debut has become the UK's most widely distributed pay TV pre-school channel.
