Turner Broadcasting has greenlit a second series of The Amazing World of Gumball, before the first has even premiered.

The series, produced in London and animated at Boulder Media in Ireland (with 3D elements from Studio Soi in Germany), uses both 2D and 3D animation in live action settings, with a visual style influenced by Japanese anime.

The Amazing World of Gumball will have its international debut on Cartoon Network with two episodes, The Mystery and The Responsible, showing in the UK on May 2nd.

The US will be the first territory to roll out the full series from May 9th, as part of Cartoon Network’s prime time Monday evening comedy block. Other countries will start showing the 40 x 11 minute episodes in Q4. Counting both seasons, there will be 80 episodes in total.

The show achieved high scores throughout audience testing, and this is just one of the reasons why Turner has high hopes for the brand.

Michael Carrington, chief content officer of Turner, said: "There is a fantastic appetite for high-quality, narrative-driven comedy animation amongst children's audiences around the world, and with The Amazing World of Gumball, we are helping to fill that gap.

"I’m thrilled to have greenlit this second series before we've launched the first - it is a tremendous accolade to our cast and crew who have created an amazing show".
