TV Mania UK has secured an agreement with the LEGO Group to produce apparel based on the hotly tipped new film, The LEGO Movie.

Due to hit UK screens in February 2014, the film stars major names such as Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson and Will Ferrell. The animation tells the story of an ordinary LEGO minifigure who is mistaken for the legendary MasterBuilder and joins a quest to stop an evil LEGO tyrant from gluing the universe together.

TV Mania already produces apparel featuring the likes of LEGO Friends, LEGO Legends of Chima, LEGO City, LEGO Duplo, LEGO Classic and LEGO Minifigures.

"The LEGO Movie is big, big news from a licensing point of view," said Dan Wilkins, MD of TV Mania UK. "A LEGO world will hit the screen that features new characters and unique storylines, so fans will be clamouring for product and that represents a fantastic opportunity for retailers, which in turn will see our business expand across boys and girls nightwear and daywear retail distribution."

Melissa Wallace, senior licensing manager for apparel and accessories, outbound licensing team at LEGO UK, added: "This new film will see LEGO bricks hitting the big screen for the first time in our history and we are delighted that TV Mania UK are on board to maximise the undoubted potential this offers for licensed apparel."
