Contender Entertainment Group has been appointed as the UK licensor for Twilight, the vampire film currently pulling in large audiences in the US.
Produced by Summit Entertainment, the film is a tale of a forbidden love affair between a male vampire and a mortal woman. It is based on a series of books by Stephanie Meyer. Ticket sales in the US have passed $180 million and the film has enjoyed number one openings in markets around the world.
Within the licensing arena, sectors targeted by Contender include apparel, posters, gifts, make up and beauty products.
“Summit has done a fantastic job of bringing this much loved story to the screen,” said Andrew Carley, head of licensing and merchandising at CEG. “With many more Stephanie Meyer books in the series, Twilight has the potential not just to be a success in its own right, but to be the starting point of one of the biggest film and licensing phenomena of the early 21st century.”
CEG also holds the UK rights for New Moon, the film version of another book in the series.
