Disney is due to open up a dedicated UK office for its Club Penguin kids' virtual world next year, according to C21 Media.

The firm is now recruiting in Brighton and is planning to take newly-hired employees to Club Penguin HQ in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada in January for 'immersive training' ahead of the UK launch.

Disney acquired the site in August when it had 12 million registered users, 700,000 of whom were described as active, with parents paying either $5.95 per month or $57.95 depending on their subscription.

"Club Penguin has already attracted a significant audience in the UK with its North American service, but we believe there is a real demand in this market for a safe online community destination for children that has local relevance," said Cindy Rose, Walt Disney Internet Group EMEA senior VP and MD.
