Plans for the UK’s first Paramount Theme Park have stepped up a notch after developers behind the £2bn project made a purchase of 18 acres of land in north Kent.

The former landfill site - called Bamber Pit - and a sports ground on the Swanscombe Peninsula have been bought by London Resort Company Holdings.

This marks the first “outright land purchase” made by the developer for the Paramount resort which is still to be given government approval, reports the BBC.

David Testa of London Paramount has said that the agreement meant its vision for a “nationally significant, multi-billion pound entertainment resort” had moved another “step closer to becoming a reality”.

The firm now continues to consult and engage with the local Dartford and Gravesham communities close to the site as well as other interested parties.

The planned Paramount Theme Park will boast more than 50 rides and attractions based on films and TV programmes, according to London Paramount and is estimated to create up to 27,000 jobs.
