Having built a strong presence in the areas of anime, toys, video games, trading cards, TV and movies, the Digimon brand is now going digital as well.
Voki is a speaking avatar platform which has been developed by Oddcast. Fans can record and upload voices to Digimon characters, share creations with friends through e-cards, social networking sites and blogs.
Ten of the most popular Digimon characters can be customised, including Agumon, Masaru, Gaomon, Thomas and Kudamon.
"Digimon has been a global innovator in broadcast media, toys, games and now the internet," said Kanji Kazahaya, director of international department for Toei Animation, the global animation studio behind Digimon.
"We are breaking new ground with this powerful extension of the Digimon brand."
Shaival Shah, vp of business development and strategy for Oddcast, added: "Voki allows Digimon fans to have a closer relationship with this mega-brand and gives them the ability to select their favourite characters, customise their personal audio messages and distribute across their various web presences."
For a four-month introductory phase, Digimon avatars will be provided to users at no cost through the Voki platform.
