HBO Global Licensing has partnered with Brewery Ommegang to release a series of themed Game of Thrones beers.

The first beer, Iron Throne Blonde Ale, will launch in the US in time for March 31st, 2013, when season three of the popular TV show premieres.

It will be available on draft and in 750ml bottles for the suggested retail price of $8.50 per bottle. This will be followed by the launch of another Game of Thrones beer in autumn, and two other beers in future seasons.

There are no plans to launch the beers outside the US at this stage.

Ommegang beers, which are created by Brewmaster Phil Leinhart, are distributed in 45 US states and internationally. The Belgian-style brewery is located on a 136-acre farmstead in Cooperstown, New York.

Game of Thrones is a hit series of fantasy novels penned by George R.R. Martin. The TV show launched in April 2011 and the second season aired earlier this year.

Licensing.biz has contacted HBO to see if the beers will be coming to the UK or if they're US-only.
