US: Marvel inks Vtech deal

Firm grows presence in consumer electronics arena following new agreement.

Marvel Entertainment has signed a deal with Vtech Electronics North America which will see a number of its characters appearing in electronic learning products.

Vtech has been awarded the rights to develop electronic learning toys (for ages 18 months to four years) and electronic learning aids (for ages four to eight) featuring several key characters and sub-brands including Classic Spider-man, Super Hero Squad and Iron Man 2.

All products will incorporate educational elements and attributes.

"This new deal with Vtech will help us reach a younger audience with products that make learning fun and entertaining," said Paul Gitter, president of consumer products at Marvel. "We are sure these innovative electronic learning products featuring our renowned Super Heroes will serve as a successful point of entry to the Marvel brand with this important demographic."
