Super RTL has acquired 50 x 11’ minutes and 2 x 22-minute specials of the pre-school series, with a second window to play on Disney Germany.

The new deal includes not only TV, but also home entertainment and licensing and merchandising rights for the brand. The German debut of the TV series is planned for this summer and will begin on Super RTL in the autumn.

The news comes on the back of the announcement of the signed agreement with Disney US for the premiere of Octonauts on Disney Junior in 2012.

Geraint Marsh, SVP television sales, Chorion, said: “We are pleased to have signed our first deal of this kind with leading broadcaster Super RTL.

"We feel privileged to work with a broadcaster that has shown such enthusiasm and commitment to Octonauts by acquiring all rights to the brand and we are looking forward to taking the show to a new audience in Germany.”

Carsten Göttel, programme director, Super RTL added: "We are very pleased to welcome the Octonauts to our Toggolino strand. The show has all the ingredients to become a favourite among our preschool audience.

"It was love at first sight when we saw the characters in an early trailer and Chorion has done a fantastic job bringing this underwater world to life and to the TV screens around the world."
