VEGAS 2011: Thomas goes first class

The evergreen brand is set to appear on a set of ten stamps.

Hit Entertainment has linked up with the Royal Mail to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the Reverend Wilbert Awdry.

The Royal Mail has issued a set of ten Thomas & Friends stamps featuring Thomas and other engines.

The collection consists of six long-format stamps and will launch tomorrow, Tuesday June 14th.

The long stamps feature images of engines from the Thomas & Friends series, while the mini sheet covers original illustrations from The Railway Series books.

· Thomas features on the first class letter
· James will be on the 66p basic rate worldwide
· Percy will be on the 68p Europe up to 20gm
· Daisy will be on the 76p basic airmail rate to 10gm
· Toby will be on the rest of world airmail up to 20gm
· Gordon will be on the £1.10 rest of world 20gm

Philip Parker, Royal Mail spokesperson said: "In this age of bullet trains and high speed travel it’s great to see that children around the world are still enchanted by a little blue tank engine and his friends.

"We hope this stamp issue will bring happy memories to all those people young and old who have enjoyed the Reverend’s wonderful stories."
