Warner Bros. Studios is to form a strategic partnership with a state controlled company in Abu Dhabi to develop entertainment products, according to The Wall Street Journal Online.
As part of the deal, Warner will co-finance a film fund and a video games fund with the newly formed Abu Dhabi Media. Both will provide $250m for each fund to finance a slate of commercial films and games, while separately they will also produce Arabic language films for local distribution.
In addition to this, Warner will licence various live-action and animated characters for use in a new theme park and hotel, which is due to begin construction in 2009. State controlled real-estate developer Aldar will finance the work and provide the land. The companies will also co-own at least four new multiplex cinemas in the city.
