Warner Bros Consumer Products has revealed that Speed Racer will hit cinemas a week earlier than previously announced.
The eagerly awaited film - which WBCP is hoping will be one of the smashes of the summer - will arrive on Friday May 9th.
A hefty licensing and merchandising campaign is lined up to support the launch. Global master toy partner, Mattel is rolling out die-cast vehicles, race track sets, action figures, radio control vehicles, games and role-play items.
Lego, meanwhile, will be producing racing playsets under its Lego Racers brand; Rubie's will have dress-up; Akyroyds/TDP and Blues will both be producing apparel; VMC will handle branded accessories; Zap and Zak have bedding and lunchware respectively; Hy-pro will handle outdoor toys; Trademark has luggage and bags; Danilo, GB Eye and Euromark lead the stationery category; Mr Lucky Bags will launch confectionery; Amscan has partyware; and Euromark will be producing toiletries.
"Speed Racer has provided us with the perfect opportunity to produce must-have products that fans of all ages will love," said Jordan Sollitto, executive VP of new initiatives and international licensing at WBCP.
Elsewhere, it was also revealed yesterday that the new James Bond film - Quantum of Solace - will arrive in cinemas a week early. The 22nd film in the franchise will now launch on October 31st instead of November 7th.
