British consumers are gearing up for World Book Day, having spent a whopping £386,000 on costumes on eBay.co.uk in the past six weeks alone.
In the run up to World Book Day, taking place on March 2nd, the online platform has revealed that parents began costume shopping for the big event from as far back as November last year, recording 720 searches for ‘World Book Day costumes’ in one month alone.
January saw a pick up in searches on eBay.co.uk, with nearly 2,000 hits a day and more that £6,500 worth of costumes sold.
The online marketplace currently has more than 16,000 World Book Day listings currently on site.
“World Book Day has captured the imagination of families up and down the country and with endless cute pictures of kids dressed up doing the rounds on their parents’ social media accounts, it’s no surprise that parents are keen for their child to look the part,” Rhian Bartlett, senior director of home, garden and fashion at eBay, said.
“Whether it’s searching for a specific costume far in advance, or leaving it a little later and needing some inspiration – eBay.co.uk is the one stop shop for World Book Day this year.”
