Fast growing toy company Wow Stuff has joined forces with Aardman's Wallace & Gromit and the IPO (formerly known as the Patent Office) to search for Britain's next big inventor.

Budding inventors of all ages are being encouraged to put forward their best idea for a new invention, which could earn them hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The competition opens in September - and will be promoted in packs of the firm's Wallace & Gromit branded Inventors Kit. The winning product will be chosen by a panel of experts and will be manufactured by Wow Stuff to sit alongside its W&G line.

The winner will also receive a royalty payment on each and every product sold.

"My 11 year-old daughter came home from her new secondary school with a pile of drawings she had produced in a subject called Design and Technology," explained Wow Stuff MD, Richard North. "They had been tasked with inventing a new type of bedside alarm clock. I loved the ideas she had produced and when I showed our head of new product development it inspired us to tap into the creativity we have as a nation.

"We are renowned as a nation of inventors and this is something that Wallace and Gromit have captured so perfectly in their iconic on-screen adventures.

"Aardman and the IPO have already been encouraging our youngsters to take an interest in ideas and inventions through their World of Cracking Ideas exhibition at the Science Museum in London. With Aardman's support, we have created an Inventors Pack with an invention submission form for the competition."

North believes that the competition could even turn the lucky winner into a millionaire. "The reality is that the winning contraption will possibly create around a hundred thousand pounds for the inventor over two years, the typical lifecycle of a gift or toy product. However, we have seen some great products go international and the resulting royalties can be quite phenomenal.

"Either way this is a great opportunity for a creative mind, however young or old, to get their idea taken from paper to product."
