Having shifted more than 22 billion cards around the world since its launch in 1999, Konami's Yu Gi Oh has been named the best selling trading card game of all time by Guinness World Records.

This achievement was reached back in April, when sales of the TCG exceeded 22,587,728,173 cards. It entered Guinness World Records on July 7th.

"We are amazed and humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response that Duelists from every corner of the world have had toward the Yu Gi Oh trading card game," said Kazumi Kitaue, chairman and CEO of Konami Digital Entertainment.

The Yu Gi Oh storyline and characters were created by Kazuki Takahashi and was featured in weekly issues of Shonen Jump magazine from 1996 to 2004. Its characters have since been depicted in animated series, trading card and video games, plush toys and figurines.

The Yu Gi Oh 5D's series is currently airing in the US.
