Family of El Chapo wanted to develop licensing programme around cartel kingpin

The family of El Chapo had attempted to trademark his name in a bid to create a licensing programme around the recently captured Mexican drug kingpin.

The Guardian reports that, according to applications lodged with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, the family had plans to launch El Chapo products across clothing, watches, hats, toys, sporting goods, saddlery and whips.

IMPI rejected the request as a result of El Chapo, real name Joaquin Guzmán, being a wanted fugitive.
