Fantastic Beasts soars to biggest UK box office opening of 2016

Warner Bros’ Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them has become the biggest opening of the year so far at the UK box office. 

The Harry Potter spin-off debuted with £15.33m, overtaking Batman v Superman’s opening of £14.62m.

Looking at Friday to Sunday tallies, Screen reports that Fantastic Beasts enjoyed the third-best opening of the wider Harry Potter franchise to date, ahead of Goblet Of Fire’s £14.93m debut.

The current top ten highest grossing films of 2016 at the UK box office are:

  1. The Jungle Book
  2. Bridget Jones’s Baby
  3. Finding Dory
  4. Captain America: Civil War
  5. Deadpool
  6. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice
  7. The Secret Life of Pets
  8. Suicide Squad
  9. The BFG
  10. Zootopia
