Fifty Shades of Grey becomes UK’s highest grossing 18-rated film of all time

After only two weeks in cinemas, Fifty Shades of Grey has become the highest grossing 18-rated film of all time in the UK.

Universal’s adaptation of the hit novel topped the box office for its second week in a row with £4.56m and its total gross to date now stands at £25.2m, reports Screen.

The future of the franchise has been thrown into question since the first film became a smash hit, with rumours suggesting that director Sam Taylor-Johnson is quitting the franchise after clashing with author EL James as well as reports that production on Fifty Shades Darker is being delayed due to James wanting to write the screenplay.
