Final Hobbit outing tops UK box office

Warner Bros’ The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has topped the UK box office in its first weekend on release.

The final film in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy debuted with £9.76m.

Screen reports that this is better than The Desolation of Smaug’s £9.3m opening but behind An Unexpected Journey’s £11.6m debut.

Elsewhere, Paddington added £2.9m to bring its total to £14.3m and the film is now StudioCanal’s highest grossing release of all time in the UK.
