The revelation that Channel 4 has not only nabbed the exclusive rights to the upcoming season four of the popular animated series Rick and Morty but is to create a ‘destination hub’ for Adult Swim content has hit the high notes with UK retailer Forbidden Planet.
The pop cult specialist saw sales figures of Rick and Morty products surge a whopping 400 per cent over the course of 2017, citing at the time that fans were ‘only just getting started,’ in throwing their money at the franchise.
The retailer has now told Licensing.biz that it is ‘looking at another year of sustained Rick and Morty sales,’ following the news that Channel will broadcast season four of the Adult Swim series exclusively this year.
“The brand that conquered Netflix is about to nab the attention of a whole new audience,” said Anthony Garnon, DTR licensing and special projects manager at Forbidden Planet.
“Coupled with the hype building for season four, Forbidden Planet is looking at another year of sustained Rick and Morty sales. Expect to see lots of exclusive designs, focusing on some of fandom’s favourite show elements. We have at least one new t-shirt design out per month.”
The firm has gone on to insist that 2019 won’t all be about Rick and Morty however, as Adult Swim outlined its own plans to curate a destination hub of Adult Swim content within Channel 4’s E4 and More 4 channels, bringing content to the UK’s linear TV audience.
Forbidden Planet will be gearing up its own offering in anticipation.
“It’s not all about Rick and Morty,” added Garnon. “We’ve been working closely with Adult Swim and recently created a range of Mr Pickles apparel and giftware. They have been very popular to say the least.”
