Frozen and Spider-man merchandise boosts Disney consumer products arm in Q4

The consumer products division of The Walt Disney Company has seen revenues for the fourth quarter rise by seven per cent to $1.1 billion.

Segment operating income increased by nine per cent to $379 million. The increase has been attributed to strong sales for Frozen and Spider-man merchandise, which offset partially lower revenues from Monsters and Iron Man merchandise.

Overall, The Walt Disney Company’s results for fiscal 2014 were the highest in the company’s history, marking its fourth consecutive year of record performance.

Revenues for the year increased eight per cent to a record $48.8 billion, while net income for the year increased 22 per cent to a record $7.5 billion.

The studio entertainment division saw revenues for the quarter rise 18 per cent to $1.8 billion – this was mainly thanks to the success of films including Guardians of the Galaxy and Maleficent at the box office, plus the home entertainment success of Frozen.

However, the interactive division witnessed a quarter revenue decrease of $34 million to $362 million.
