Funimation celebrates 25 years of anime success with Funko partnership

The anime specialist – and subsidiary of Sony Pictures Television – is kickstarting a year-long celebration to mark 25 years in the field, with a new partnership with the pop culture experts Funko.

Funimation was originally founded in 1994 with the purpose of bringing Dragon Ball Z to North American audiences. Over the past 25 years, the operation has grown in to a global distributor for anime that provides SVOD, home entertainment, theatrical and broadcast distribution, as well as merchandise licensing for the anime scene.

The company now offers a catalogue of more than 600 titles with audiences across the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand through its subscription service Funimation Now.

As it now celebrates is 25th year of service, Funimation has partnered with Funko for a collection of six silver chrome Pop figures based on characters from currently licensed titles. These figures will be revealed one at a time over the course of the year. It will be lead with the launch of Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul.

As part of today’s announcement, Funimation has launched a 25th anniversary microsite at where it will release additional news, event details and special fan content throughout the year.
