Funko eyes Hollywood with Warner Bros film in the works

Funko has made a move for Hollywood with plans of a new film inspired by its popular Funko Pop figurines now in the works.

The new title will be developed in partnership with Warner Bros and Warner Animation Group, serving as an extension of a collaboration with the studio that has spanned some 20 years now, and delivered collectables based on some of its biggest franchises.

According to a report from Deadline, Allison Abbate, executive VP of Warner Animation Group, will manage the partnership on behalf of the studio.

Abbate has said that the studio is excited to bring the characters to life on movie screens. “Their fresh take on pop culture makes these figurines incredibly appealing to fans of all ages,” she said.

Before then, Warner Animation Group has three planned released in Space Jam 2, Scoob, and Tom & Jerry.

Brian Mariotti, CEO of Funko, added that the movie will now be about selling toys, but enriching the Funko entertainment business.

“We’re thrilled for this opportunity and are committed to making an amazing Funko movie that stands on its own merit,” he said. “This isn’t about selling toys or building a brand. The team at Warner Animation Group have a unique vision of what the first film should be and we are extremely excited to take this journey alongside them.”
