Godzilla has smashed the US box office in its , launching in North America with an estimated $93.2m.
The monster movie has also enjoyed the biggest opening of 2014 on an international level, with a mammoth $103m.
It’s no surprise then that a sequel to the film is already under development.
Legendary Pictures and Warners Bros. have confirmed that a Godzilla sequel is underway, with Godzilla director Gareth Edwards tipped to continue the saga.
Godzilla – starring Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Juliette Binoche – has seen numerous retellings in its 60 year history, with the latest recount estimated to double the $379m takings of the 1998 version.
Edwards has spoken about how he would approach a sequel, saying he would use the same kind of restraint he used for the current film, reports Deadline.
