Swiss watchmaker Tag Hauer has teamed with Google to launch a new smartwatch powered by Intel.
The new watch will use the Android Wear platform.
The smartwatch is scheduled to launch later this year, however and exact release date is yet to be confirmed. The watch is expected to launch in competition with Apple’s new smartwatch, which will roll out in late April.
“Swiss watchmaking and Silicon Valley is a marriage of technological innovation with watchmaking credibility,” said Jean-Claude Biver, president, watch division, LVMH Group and chief executive, Tag Hauer.
“Our collaboration provides a rich host of synergies, forming a win-win partnership and the potential for our three companies is enormous.”
David Singleton, director of engineering, Android Wear, added: “By fusing beauty with technology, the Swiss watch has inspired generations of artists and engineers alike, including us at Google.
“So, we’re thrilled to be working with Tag Hauer and Intel to bring a unique blend of emotion and innovation to the luxury market.
“Together, we can imagine a better, beautiful, smarter watch.”
