Harry Potter stage play to open in London’s West End

A new Harry Potter stage play is to debut in London’s West End next year, author of the series JK Rowling has confirmed.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – which will run at the Palace Theatre from summer 2016 – will tell the untold part of the boy wizard’s story. This will include the story of the lives of his murdered parents.

Rowling made the announcement on the 18th anniversary of when her debut book – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – was first published in the UK.

She said: "I am confident that when audiences see the play they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story."

The new story is a collaboration between Rowling and writer Jack Thorne – who won a BAFTA for his work on Channel 4’s This is England ’88 – and John Tiffany, who will also direct the play.
