Producer Al Jean has revealed the team will not kill off his cast of characters.

Harry Shearer, voice of Mr Burns and Skinner, leaves The Simpsons

Harry Shearer, the voice of Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns and dozens more in The Simpsons, is leaving the show after more than 25 years.

His departure follows a dispute with makers of the show, of which executive producer Al Jean said that Shearer had turned down a new pay deal.

However, 71 year old Shearer took to twitter to say the decision “wasn’t about money” and that signing up to season’s 27 and 28 of the show would have stopped him from doing other work.

Over his 25-year role in The Simpsons, Shearer has voiced a plethora of regular characters, including principle Seymour Skinner, Jasper, Otto and man more.

Despite the departure, executive producer James L Brooks has said that the “show will go on, Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best.”

Producers have revealed that there are no plans to kill off the cast of characters voiced by Shearer, and Al Jean took to Twitter to state the team will “recast with the finest voiceover talent available.”

Last week, the Fox network confirmed it had commissioned two more series of the long-running animated sitcom.

Other roles in Shearer’s career include the role of bass player Derek Small in the iconic rock mockumentary, This is Spinal Tap.
