Hasbro has confirmed it will be working with IDW Publishing to launch an all-female team of Transformers.
The new line-up will feature six new female Autobots who will be able to combine to create Victorion.
The all-female cast is slated to appear first in comics this July in the Transformers: Combiner Hunters miniseries.
Hasbro is scheduled to debut a toy line later in the year.
“Our female fans have demanded to be part of the story,” said Sarah Carroll, Hasbro’s senior brand manager for Transformer toys.
“To have them be represented as well is something that’s only natural.”
Last week, DC Entertainment revealed its new slate of superheroes in the female-centric universe, DC Super Heroes Girls, starring teenage version of iconic super heroes, including Wonder Woman and Bat Girl.
Mairghread Scott, a writer for the animated Transformer series as well as IDW’s Transformers: Windblade comics said that for children, “it’s very important for them to have strong female characters so that they can relate and bridge that love with their kids.”
