Hellblade and Overwatch win big at Video Game BAFTAs

The games industry gathered last night to honour 2017’s greatest video game titles at an awards ceremony hosted by Dara O’Brien.

The titles that scooped awards may well be ones to watch in the licensing space, with the British Academy presenting gongs to games that have artistic value, technical mastery and innovation.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, a title dealing with themes of depression and mental instability developed by UK studio Ninja Theory, scooped an impressive five awards including Artistic Achievement and British Game.

Blizzard Entertainment’s multiplayer hit Overwatch won the Evolving Game award, due to its continued updates and free content that has kept players returning to the game more than year after release.

Overwatch’s growing presence in the esports space makes it one of the most important gaming properties in the licensing space, and the game’s popularity shows no signs of waning, due in no small part to the continued support from developers, Blizzard.

Also among the winners was Nintendo’s Super Mario Odyssey, stunning indie title Cuphead and quirky adventure game Night in the Woods.
