Hello Kitty and friends join Tombo Japanese Café and Matcha Bar for latest pop-up experience

Hello Kitty has launched its latest pop-up experience at the Tombo Japanese Café and Matcha Bar in Fitzrovia, helping to ring in the 45 anniversary celebrations for the iconic Sanrio character.

In collaboration with Sanrio, this will be the first-time Hello Kitty and its cast of friends have been brought together in a European Café set to a winter wonderland themed interior.

The Sanrio x Tombo Café Menu at Tombo Café Fitzrovia has been billed as the ‘perfect pre or post-Christmas destination to catch up with friends,’ as each dish corresponds with and highlights each character’s personality.

Guests can choose from three Sanrio-inspired brunch set menus:

Hello Kitty Continental Set (£14.95) (v) – featuring the special feline on a Hello Kitty strawberry doughnut, plus Sanrio yogurt granola and berry compote and Matcha chocolate drizzled croissant with raspberry crystals.

Gudetama Western Brunch Set (£14.95) – the laid-back egg that likes nothing more than to chill out will feature a Gudetama fried egg, bacon blanket, baked beans, plus Japanese slaw, toast and a Sanrio forest fruit yogurt pot

Gudetama Japanese Brunch Set (£21.95) – available all day, the traditional Japanese breakfast has a Gudetama twist! Featuring miso marinated salmon with black and white rice, Japanese omelette, pickles, hijiki seaweed and miso soup.

All options are accompanied by either a green tea or juice, or alternatively enjoy a small bottle of prosecco for one for only an additional £8. Meanwhile, all-day warming options include:

Badtz-Maru Ramen (£16.50) – the mischievous little penguin features on this ramen with serious attitude – expect black sesame seafood broth with black pudding, bamboo shoots and wakame.

Gudetama Udon (£12.95) – hearty udon noodle soup with our favourite poached egg, inari tofu blanket, tempura crumbs and wakame seaweed.

Pom Pom Purin Curry (£7.95) (ve) – the golden retrievers laidback demeanour comes out in this scrumptious dish featuring yellow rice with homemade curry sauce and vegetables, with the option to add Chicken Katsu at £6 or Pumpkin Katsu at £5.

For those looking for a lighter option, the Hello Kitty Garden Poké Set (salmon £13.95 / tofu £12.50) includes black and white sushi rice with salmon sashimi or fried tofu, sesame soy, Hello Kitty vegetables, edible flowers, crispy shallots and miso soup.

Sweet lovers can indulge in a selection of treats including, Kerropi’s Pond (£5.95) (v) including the green frog in a Matcha tiramisu with Oreo cookie crumbs and Kerropi chocolate or Sanrio Milkshake specials (£7.50) available in the other Sanrio character flavours across the four months.

On top of this, the café will be selling exclusive Sanrio x Tombo Café merchandise, with a range of winter lines such as Tombo x Sanrio Christmas cards, evening bancha tea, mugs, postcards and posters – all featuring special edition artwork designs.

Also on sale is a range of Tombo tea created bespoke for Sanrio, including ceremonial grade matcha tins, and matcha latte mix, both rich in antioxidants.
