Kings Langley to become King's Landing for one week to mark DVD release of season three

Hertfordshire village changes name to celebrate Game of Thrones DVD release

The village of Kings Langley in Hertfordshire is undergoing a temporary name change to celebrate the arrival of Game of Thrones Season Three on DVD and Blu-ray.

For one week in February, Kings Langley will change its name to King’s Landing, the royal capital of the seven kingdoms of Westeros from the show.

A producer on the show got the idea for the name change when he heard the Kings Langley mentioned as a stop for a train leaving London’s Euston station and the cost of changing the signs will be covered by the production company.

Borough and parish councillor Alan Anderson helped the idea come to fruition and believes it should help shine a spotlight on the small town.

“This re-naming is a great opportunity to put Kings Langley and Dacorum on the map," said Anderson.

“You can’t ignore the parallels between Kings Langley’s own rich history and the themes in the show such as battling kings and warring families.”

Businesses and restaurants in the area are being encouraged to create special offers for visiting fans of the show and posters will also be appearing in shops to support the idea.

Game of Thrones fans who visit the village can be in with the chance of winning Game of Thrones seasons one to three on Blu-ray by taking a photo with the King’s Landing sign and tweeting it to @HBO_UK using the hastag #KingsLandingUK.
