No rest for 20 riders as they head out for 26 miles through the Red Rock National Conservation Park.

Industry cyclists tackle desert heat for Vegas training ride

On Sunday morning (June 7th), while most licensing folk were sleeping or in some cases only just getting back to their hotel rooms, 20 of the London to Utrecht Miffy Cycle Challenge riders representing seven countries met at 6.00am to head out to Blue Diamond on the rural outskirts of Las Vegas for a 26-mile training ride through the Red Rock National Conservation Park.

The trip was organised with local tour guide McGhies which laid on four support vehicles, mechanics, snacks and lots of iced water.

Temperatures quickly rose to the low 90s and the scenery, banter and comradery were nothing short of exceptional. All agreed that it was a very special experience that saw Ian Hyder from Max Publishing snapping a pedal on a five-mile hill climb section, Icon Live’s Warren Traeger hooking a wasp in his bib shorts and a rather cheeky Road Runner joining the peleton on the last downhill section.

While Licensing Expo must go on, so too must the strict diet regime and training for the group of 45 who leave London on June 30th for a four-day 310 mile cycle to Utrecht in Holland for The Light Fund and the Dutch Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital, as part of the Grand Depart for Le Tour de France.
