Nintendo has made its first leap into Virtual Reality in a new partnership with Bandai Namco’s VR Zone Arcade in Tokyo.
The move arrives as a somewhat tentative step towards the growing entertainment medium, as it lists its hit franchise, Mario Kart among the outfit’s roster of VR arcade games.
A new trailer for Bandai Namco’s VR Zone Arcade in Shinjuku, Tokyo reveals players engaging with the Mario Kart title via the HTC Vive VR headset.
The big reveal has already sent shock waves across the gaming community, as Nintendo continues to remains tight-lipped about its involvement in the virtual reality market. Bandai Namco’s official website has also confirmed its existence, listing Mario Kart Arcade GP VR among its current titles.
The reveal comes at a time in which Nintendo has begun branching out, bringing games to mobile and forming new partnerships with the likes of Ubisoft for new Mario titles such as the Mario and Rabbids crossover.
Commentators from the video games market have welcomed the move, hailing it as the start of a new trend for Nintendo and its potential to bring VR to the West.
