Rob McElhenney, the creator and star of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, will direct the Minecraft movie.

Warner Bros has previously been in talks with Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy, but Mojang COO Vu Bui took to Twitter to reveal that McElhenney had secured the gig.

‘Some of you may have seen this guy hanging around MINECON in London a couple weeks ago," said Bui.

"He’s Rob McElhenney, and he’s going to be directing the upcoming Minecraft movie."

McElhenney replied: "Hey Mojang, let’s do something strange and wonderful."
