Epic Rights signs as global licensing agent for the popular 1960s psychedelic rock group.

Jefferson Airplane readies for 50th anniversary with new licensing plans

Epic Rights has been named the global licensing agent for the psychedelic rock band, Jefferson Airplane.

The new partnership has been secured as the group prepares to kick off its 50th anniversary celebrations next year.

In representing the popular Sixties band, Epic Rights will look to expand on the tie-dye feel of the brand in to a range of consumer products and services, including apparel, accessories, home décor, stationery and paper goods, collectibles, gifts and novelty and publishing.

Formed in 1965 by Martin Balin, Paul Kantner and Jorma Kaukonen, Jefferson Airplane was the first band to appear in concert at Bill Graham’s Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco in February 1966.

“Jefferson Airplane’s music set the tone for the social revolution that occurred throughout the 1960s,” said Dell Furano, CEO of Epic Rights.

“Their lyrics were provocative, challenging, political and the music they delivered was hypnotic.

“We plan to capture the essence the of the band to deliver a unique licensing programme reminiscent of that era, yet relevant for today’s consumers.”

Bill Thompson, manager of Jefferson Airplane, added: “Jefferson Airplane’s music continues to reach, impact and influence different generations of fans as the band approaches its 50th anniversary celebration in 2015.

“We are very excited to embark on a top quality merchandising programme with Dell and his team at Epic Rights, and we know we will reach new highs in this next venture.”
