The Jim Henson Company is calling upon its portfolio of classic characters and brands to help the studio celebrate its 60th anniversary this year.
Over the last 60 years, the Company has established itself as a leading name in family entertainment, recognised across the globe as an innovator in puppetry, animatronics and digital animation.
Now, as the firm pays homage to its founder Jim Henson who premiered his first show, Sam and Friends in 1955, it is launching a programme of celebratory events, featuring characters from across the ages.
Premiering on September 24, TouchPigs.com will be hosting a special Unboxing with the Jim Henson Company, delving into the studio’s archives online to reveal some of its hidden treasures.
At the same time, fans of the fantasy classic Dark Crystal will be called upon to show off their talents in the cosplay realm with an exclusive Dark Crystal Fan Film Competition, kicking off at www.darkcrystal.com.
For family fun, Jim Henson Family Screenings will take place across the US, kicking off with New York’s Museum of the Moving Image Fall Family day on Saturday, September 26th, featuring puppet making and screenings of Dinosaur Train and Sid the Science Kid.
Future screening locations include the Centre for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta and more.
While in Atlanta, the Centre for Puppetry will also host its new Worlds of Puppetry Museum featuring the world’s most comprehensive collection of Jim Henson puppets and artifacts donated by the Henson family. The museum will open its doors on November 14th this year.
Meanwhile, for fans of all ages, Jim Henson’s Turkey Hollow – a new movie premiering on Lifetime on November 21st this year – is based on the never-produced story by Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl.
The movie features creatures from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
Over its 60 year history and total of 475 episodes of animated television produced by the Jim Henson Company, it’s archive of children’s content has seen much evolution, from the first animated Fraggle Rock series of 1987 to 2009’s Dinosaur Train.
In the coming months, fans can expect fun opportunities to share their own appreciation of classic titles as well as its current hit series, before the Compnay launches its new pre-school series World Party on Netflix in 2016.
