Roald Dahl was a spy, ace fighter-pilot, chocolate historian and medical inventor. He was also the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG and many more brilliant stories. He remains the World’s No.1 storyteller.

The Roald Dahl Story Company manage the stories of Roald Dahl, across a number of channels including book, theatre, movies, TV marketing, brand partnerships and merchandise.

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Licensing Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Retail Publishing Director, they will be responsible for driving growth across multiple categories of Roald Dahl licensed merchandise including gifting, softlines, hardlines and more, across a number of strands including classic, entertainment and brand partnerships.

Role and Responsibilities :

The duties that the Senior Licensing Manager will be responsible for include:

  Setting the strategy for, managing and the commercial growth of the licensing programmes we currently have across the UK, US and Australia/NZ

 Meeting merchandise growth targets in all territories

 Working closely with licensing agents on the ground to support and grow the programmes

 Line management of, and working closely with the Brand Design Manager, who will be in charge of product approvals for the licensing programmes

 Working closely with the Retail Publishing Director to grow the Roald Dahl brand at retail, maintaining and making key retail contacts in the process

 Determining and developing cross-category opportunities between RDSC and its Licensees

 Working with all Roald Dahl Licensees to grow product and retail opportunities

 Working closely with the Brand Design Manager to create new, forward-thinking, innovative products that fit the needs of each key territory market

 Expanding licensing programmes globally into key territories

 Being prepared to work on a number of Roald Dahl Story Company licensed merchandise strands (not just Classic programme)

 Strategic growth of licensed product categories and partners in all territories

 Management and growth of ‘special’ licensed brand partnerships

 Working with our consumer PR agency to maintain a high visibility of Roald Dahl licensed product in the public eye

 Creating a suitable global strategy for all of our key licensed properties including The BFG, Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

 Working closely with the RDSC marketing calendar to ensure licensed product is available at key points of the year (including Roald Dahl Day)

 Representing the brand at key licensing events including BLE

Key Skills :

The ideal candidate for the role of Senior Licensing Manager will:

 Have at least 5 years’ experience, in similar or related roles within the licensing industry

 Be a self-starter, with excellent commercial acumen who has shown demonstrable commercial licensing growth within their career

 Ideally have experience of working on publishing, children’s and entertainment brands

 Know UK retail inside-out

 Have strong communication and presentation skills

 Be extremely well organised

 Know the importance of sticking to briefing deadlines, and able to manage their own time

 Have an eye-for-detail and experience in using Keynote

 Have excellent contacts within the licensing industry

 Have excellent attention to detail

 Have excellent grammar and spelling

 A good sense of humour and a collegial and flexible approach to work

 Know and love Roald Dahl’s stories!
